Ali Ghodsi, CEO of data analytics leader Databricks, says the next phase of artificial intelligence will be driven by AI agents and vibe coding, not inflated startup valuations.
At a recent industry event, Ghodsi revealed that more than 80% of new databases launched on Databricks are now created by AI agents rather than humans. According to him, this shift shows AI moving beyond demos and hype toward practical, everyday business use.
Ghodsi also warned that parts of the AI market are overheated, with several startups attracting billion-dollar valuations despite having little or no revenue. He said such trends signal a bubble forming around hype rather than real value.
Instead, he believes sustainable growth will come from applications that perform real work — including automated data setup, research assistance, and software development powered by vibe coding.
Ghodsi added that core AI models are becoming widely available and less differentiated, making applications and utility the true drivers of future AI revenue. Companies that focus on usefulness over valuation, he said, are more likely to succeed as the market matures.
